All I Want For Christmas are Books, Books, Books...

I've noticed several bloggers posting about which books they would love to get for Christmas, and so, I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon and post mine, too.  Here goes:

Gee, my love for Vonnegut isn't at all evident in this list, eh?  And, yes, I want those two cookbooks, because I am convinced that once I get them I will turn into a domestic goddess (which makes me think I should get that cookbook by Nigella Lawson. Hmmm. another one to add to the list).  Not that I'll be getting any of these from my friends and family.  Apparently, when you love to read, it is often assumed that you don't need anyone to buy you a book as a gift, because they figure that you've already bought yourself that book you've been talking about. Well, its not true. I would love some of these books for Christmas, so this year when people ask me what I want, I will be giving them a book title in response.  Not sure if my plan will work, but I figure if all I mention are books, then I'm more likely to get at least one book for Christmas.  Fingers crossed!  And now, I'm off to start my Christmas shopping list for gifts that I need to buy.  Happy Holidays and Happy Reading!!

Good picks! I WANT WANT WANT the Smitten cookbook. LOVE her! You'll have to let me know what you think if you get it! I got The Round House a couple of weeks ago but have considered putting it off until after Christmas. We should have a mini-readalong when you do!

Hope you get ALL of these :)

Beth, I know! That book looks so good - I will let you know how awesome it is once I get it. I'm pretty sure my sister is getting it for me, since I've only mentioned wanting it about a thousand times ;) And, yes, we should definitely do a mini-readlong of The Round House after Christmas. I'll tweet you about it later ;) Thanks - I hope I get them all, too. LOL!

I wouldn't say no to the Smitten Kitchen cookbook - but I have put Ottolenghi's Jerusalem on my wish list. I didn't know Ann Patchett had a new book. I loved Bel Canto.

Joan, I don't know what Ottolenghi's Jerusalem is - I'm check it out. As for the Ann Patchett book, I think it may be an older one she had written, but for some reason its currently been making the book blogging rounds. I've only read State of Wonder - which I loved! And, yes, that Smitten Kitchen seems to be a must have for everyone ;)

My list has several Vonnegut selections, too. I've been re-visiting his books lately. I'm excited about "Letters." The few pieces of Vonnegut correspondence I've seen on Letters of Note are among my favorites. He had such a way with words (he would've made a great blogger!).

Yay, I'm glad to see I'm not the only Vonnegut fan out there. Yeah, I've heard so many great things about LETTERS, so I'm excited about that on in particular. He would definitely would have made an excellent blogger - I loved his pieces for In These Times - that is the reason I would visit that website ;)

No one buys me books! I think people think it's because I've already read everything that there is to be read!

My shameful secret: I've never read Vonnegut. :(

I hope you find all of these books under your tree this Christmas!

bermudaonion, I hope he does, too :) I swear that cookbook is THE cookbook to get. Must be all the delicious looking food in it.

Jennifer, exactly! Me, too! Isn't that crazy!?! What? You need to read some of his work - at least one of his books - they are so good! You will not be disappointed - I swear! And, thanks - I hope so, too ;)

I love Ina, but I have a couple of her cookbooks and they are a little snooty and not very usable for every day stuff.

I want the Artisnal Gluten Free Bible. I may be butchering that title.

Ti, yeah, they are kind of snooty. I think that is just how she is. LOL! But for some reason I am obsessed with how delicious her food always looks, so I want that book :)

I hope you get that cookbook - sounds like something you could definitely enjoy :)

Kurt Vonnegut's Letter's is on my list too! He's one of my favorite authors, and after reading his biography by Charles Shields this year, I'd love to read his personal letters!

Hi, Leah! Not sure why your comment didn't post, so I posted it. Anyhow, in response to what you wrote - Woo hoo! I'm so excited to see that Vonnegut is one of your favorite authors - makes me not feel so alone in my love for his work :) I have that Shields book on my shelf, but have yet to read - looks like I need to. Enjoy Letters!

Holly, I think everyone wants those - LOL! :)

I had no idea you were such a fan of Vonnegut! My family seems to think that I can get all of the books I want for free so why should they pay for any. They don't quite get it! But I love your idea of only giving people book titles for ideas to try to steer them right!

Lisa, I am. I fell in love with his writing in college and have always read his work ever since. And, yes, I know what you mean - they do not get it at all ;) I just hope my plan works - LOL!

The Ann Patchett book is wonderful - my favorite of hers! I personally like her better as a nonfiction essayist or memoirist than as a fiction writer. If you read Truth and Beauty, though, you'll also have to read Autobiography of a Face because the the book is about her relationship with Lucy Grealy.

I totally know what you mean about people assuming book lovers don't need books as gifts! First it was my birthday, then Hanukkah and no new books came my way! Frustrating, definitely.

Kelly, I'm glad to hear that - makes me look even more forward to reading the Patchett book ;) I'm jotting down the title for the Face one you mentioned - sounds good! And that is frustrating, isn't it ;)
