RIP V Begins NOW!

September 1st kicks off the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril V Challenge hosted by Carl from Stainless Steel Droppings. How exciting! What a wonderful way to kick off the upcoming fall season with a few spooky reads.  In case you haven't heard of this super fun challenge before, here are the details:

The challenge runs from September 1st thru October 31st.
The goal - have fun reading books from these genres:  Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror and Supernatural.
The perils (there are quite a few to choose from and you can choose to participate at any peril or in multiple perils if you want):

Peril the First - read four books that are scary (any length)
Peril the Second -read two scary books (any length)
Peril the Third -read 1 scary book (any length)
Short Story Peril - read spooky short stories
Peril on The Screen - watch spooky movies or tv shows.

The only rule of the challenge - ENJOY!

If you are interested in participating, head on over to Carl's site and sign up now!

As for me, I'm still deciding which books I want to read for this exciting challenge. I'm pretty sure I'll be participating at Peril the Second, but am aiming at finishing at Peril the First.  I do know that I want to read Jekyll and Hyde, but that's about it for now. Hmmm. I should probably go and peruse the bookshelves and see what I have that qualifies as scary. If you have any ideas on what I should consider reading for this challenge, please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know. Until the next post, Happy Reading!!

Great to have you joining in RIP V! I responded to your comment on my site that seeing you mention Jekyll and Hyde brought back a vivid memory of reading it when I was a teenager. Thanks, hadn't thought about that in forever and a day. :)

Thanks, Carl! I'll have to check out your comment - I love it when a book sparks a vivid memory for someone (how cool is that!). Well, I definitely can't wait to start reading something spooky and fun for this challenge. So glad you set it up! Cheers!

I've decided to read No Name and have already started. I think it's going to turn out to be a good choice! I've been checking out other readers's lists and getting more ideas, but I know I won't manage more than one book and some short storries (well maybe two books). Have fun making your choice--Jekyll and Hyde is a good read!

Danielle, I'll have to look up No Name - the title alone sounds intriguing. And that is what I plan on doing, too - checking out other people's lists to get ideas. Thanks for the heads up on Jekyll and Hyde - I'm excited to read it.

Brenna, I can't believe I almost forgot about this challenge! Its such a fun one! Halloween is the best and I just love watching spooky movies and reading darker books during the fall season. Can't wait to see what books you'll be reading.

Amanda, so glad you joined in on the spooky fun! It'll be a great way to kick off fall and get in the Halloween spirit. Looking forward to seeing what books you'll be reading for this.

Yay for joining in! I'm excited for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde as well-- can't wait to see what you think. I would most definitely suggest Shirley Jackson if you haven't already read her stuff...

bermudaonion, thanks! I'm really looking forward to it. :)

Kate, thanks! I say go for some mysteries this fall - I think the weather helps in creating a the perfect mood for some good mysteries. :)

She, thanks for the suggestion! I've never any of Shirley Jackson's work - great tip! And, I'm glad you are doing this challenge, too! It'll be great to find out what you think of Jekyll and Hyde, too! Definitely, YAY!

I've been in the mood to read some scary books lately so I might join in on this challenge as well! I actually might join in reading Jeckyll and Hyde- my Victorian lit professor really peeked my interest in it.

By far the most tempting challenge I have seen this year. Might have to give in this time if only for the gorgeous button. I do have those Daphne Du Maurier short stories and have yet to read The Little Stranger. Those would do it right there. Whatever you decide, happy reading to you as well!

Ash, I hope you do join the challenge. I think you'll enjoy it. Plus, it'll be fun if you read Jekyll and Hyde, too!

Frances, I know what you mean about the button for the challenge - I love it, too! And I hope you join the challenge - sounds like you already have some great ideas for some spooky reads. Should be fun!

I hope you have no trouble coming up with a list! I decided to just read at whim this year so I have no idea what I will wind up reading yet! Have fun with your reading!

Kailana, thanks! I'm going to be reading: Jekyll and Hyde, Dracula and two others that I'm still not sure about. I'm hoping that checking out other participants' lists will give me some new names to read. We'll see! So glad you are joining in on the fun! Can't wait to read your posts about the books you've chosen! Have fun!!

I'm planning on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, myself. I hope we get through that novel, and more, during this challenge.

Oh, you know me... I get too scerrrred to do scary books. You can do it for me and report back here! I'll be scared vicariously through you, haha! I do plan on finishing Dracula this October though.. I started it last October but had to return it to the library before I was through.

Good luck!

Bellezza, that is great! Can't wait to read your thoughts on Jekyll and Hyde - I just started it today!

Wallace, I know spooky isn't your cup of tea :) I do think its great you want to finish Dracula - I'll be reading it, too! We can compare notes on it. And definitely check back here for my reviews on some spooky books this month and next. Cheers!
