Derry, Maine is where It's at! Ack! Isn't that a creepy cover? Well, its the kindle cover for King's bestselling book about the murderous clown who terrorizes a group of best friends. And right now I'm in deep with this book. I want to read it all the time, but can only manage to do so during daylight hours. Why? Because this book is freaking me out and reading it at night when its dark and things go bump in the night is not an option. So far, I'm at the part where Ben is at the library and those three bullies are waiting outside for him. I'm hoping they don't get a hold of him, but I'm thinking this might be where he gets that "H" carved in his stomach - I could be wrong though. I hope I'm wrong!
King has me hooked on this little town and its disturbing history. I'm eager to find out just what "It" is and what exactly happened that summer when this group of kids befriended each other and made a pact to come back home if "It" happened again. I'm also loving the way King goes back and forth in time with these characters - its such a great way to get to know them and "It". I have to admit that I teared up at the beginning when Georgie died - that was just awful. That sweet little boy! And reading about Mellon was so hard, because I just wanted to save him from those monsters and the clown. I can't believe that no one came out to help him and Don - you know they heard the screams and fight. I can't help but imagine that evil clown biting Mellon's armpit - ugh! King is just killing it with this story - it is frightening, maddening, and addicting. I am loving this book! I really can't wait to find out how these friends will banish "It", because I'm sure as hell hoping that they do.
This book is my first spooky read for R.I.P. IX, because it the epitome of scary. Or at least the cover is. And now, I'm off to try and get a few more chapters in before it gets really dark outside. Wish me luck!

Yessss!!! I have read this one at least twice and then for the It Along, I listened to it on audio and it was really good.
They are planning to re-do the movie, thank goodness as the movie was not very good. Love thee darkness in this one. Love the kids, too.
Not read this, but I want to read Joyland. Just read his book On Writing which was also quite interesting.
Ti, I am loving it! I remember watching the film when I was younger and being scared of Tim Curry - he was such an evil clown! I wonder who's going to be in the remake of it? I remember your read-along of It and it sounded like such a great read that I finally decided to give it a go. If I have any questions I'll ask you :)
Nicola, if you don't want to read anything too scary, then Joyland is perfect. There is a bit of spookiness, but not that much. Its actually rather tame, but definitely very good. I've heard of On Writing, but haven't read it yet. I like that it was interesting - perhaps I'll add it to my TBR. Cheers!
I've always found clowns kind of creepy...and that cover! It gives me the shivers. But King's good at doing that. I really want to read this book...just maybe not late at night. :)
Lark, me too! Especially after watching Poltergeist as a kid. Creepy! King is the best! Definitely read it if you get the chance :)
I love it! I have always wanted to read this book. Have you seen the movie? I did many years ago, but don't remember it much. This book sounds awesome.
Brandie, read it! I did see the movie and it creeped me out. I heard they are doing a remake of it and I just know I'm going to watch it ;)
Jade, it was a long movie and I don't remember much of it - just the clown. His works are flawless :)
I had the same issue with King's early books - I could only read them during daylight hours!
I'd love to reread It at some point to see if it scares me as much second time around - 25 yrs later, I still have a thing about drains though!!!
Brona Joy, I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to King's books :) I've only seen the movie and finally got the courage to read the book. So far, I am hooked!
I have never been brave enough to read this one even though I've read a lot of King!
Lisa, me too! That's why its taken so long for me to read it - LOL!
