Reading in 2015

Happy New Year!  Its 2015 and that means new books, new authors, and new reading experiences - hurrah!  Of course, it also means new blog posts (something I haven't been too keen on lately.)  So, I've been reading everyone else's blog posts about their recent new reads and their 2015 blogging goals - all of which have been rather inspiring.  I was hoping they'd help me get back on track with my own blogging, but I started thinking about the resolutions I made in 2014 and didn't stick to and realized what the main problem was.  Instead of reading by whim (like I had declared in 2014), I read by schedule.  Yep, I over-scheduled myself with way too many review books and found my reading experiences rather lacking.  I felt like I was in school forced to read books that I just didn't want to read.  I can't let that happen again in 2015.  So, I've decided that  I will read all of the books I have already agreed to review, but then I'm going to stop accepting review books. The only exception will be if the book is by an author I am OBSESSED with.  No more accepting books just because I love the cover or it sounds fairly interesting - those books always tends to disappoint more often than not.  I feel like I sort of fell out of love with reading last year and I want to rectify that this year.  I want 2015 to be a very fulfilling and happy bookish year.  I want to rediscover my love and passion for books.  So, here's to "Happy Reading" for us all.

I love this, Nadia! I couldn't agree with you more. I feel like the more I commit to reviews, the more it takes the fun out of reading. I just want to read what I want, when I want and enjoy it! I started slacking on blogging and I think a lot of it had to do with not reading any really amazing books towards the end of the year. I'm happy to say my first two books of 2015 have been fantastic - great way to start of the year! I hope you fall back in love with reading this year and get to read what YOU want. Enjoy!

I completely agree with you; its so easy to accept books and then feel tied down to them. Bound and gagged, actually. I'm finding that I just want to read what I just want to read, too.

The pictures you've been posting lately are so lovely!

I think you've made a wise and brave decision.

I love reading whatever I want and not worrying about review copies! There are so many amazing books on backlists :-) I figure, if there's a book coming out that I really want to read, I'm happy to wait until I can get it from the library or purchase it. I actually JUST downloaded a book from netgalley for the first time in forever. But again, it was a book I already wanted to read. I think you'll be very happy with this new outlook - it's a game changer!

Brandie, thanks! I'm glad 2015 is starting off as a great reading year for you :) Seems like we were both in the same boat last year - here's to falling in love with reading in 2015!!

Meredith, great minds think alike :) Yes - bound and gagged! LOL! I'm feeling the same way about reading. So far this year I am sticking with what I want and I'm enjoying it. And, thanks! I always love the way you redo your blog, so I figured posting new pictures would help keep my blog somewhat fresh.

Topazshell, thank you :) I plan on sticking with it!

Aarti, yes! You are so right - the books aren't going anywhere! I need to remember that I can always get a copy if I really want to read it later on - thanks!! I think I'll be a lot happier as well :)

YAY! I did this more in 2014 and I ended up reading 103 books, way past my goal and way more than I've been reading since my first year blogging. I am going to read more from my TBR pile and library this year and I now think that whims should never be denied! I am a firm believer in whims!

Feeling forced to read is never a good thing. I hope this year turns out to be a more relaxed and happier reading year for you. After all, reading is supposed to be something you look forward to and enjoy doing...right? Happy Reading in 2015!

"love the way you redo your blog"...what a nice way of saying I'm all over the place! :) However, I think I may have found a template I like, yet when I look at Simple on Blogger (such as yours) I get all nostalgic...

Happy New Year Nadia! I felt exactly the same way last year which is why I ended up taking a 6 month blogging breadk! I'm much stricter about saying no to books I'm not that interested in now so that I can read the ones I really want to!

I so wanted to start the year with this idea...and then immediately added way too many books to my schedule. And already I'm in a rut. Good luck having fun with it this year!

Amen! I've gotten to the point where I don't love scheduled reviews or feeling obligated to review something. I read the fewest number of books last year since I started reviewing. I had a lot of reading gaps.

I have no set reading goals for 2015. It's quite a liberating feeling!
