In her debut novel Water on the Moon, Jean P. Moore introduces readers to Lidia Raven, whose life begins taking seemingly endless wrong turns. Lidia and her girls miraculously survive the plane crash that destroys their home and are taken in by Lidia’s friend Polly, a neighbor with a robust collection of first-edition books who lives alone on a sprawling estate.
Struggling to cope with each of these life-changing events, Lidia discovers a connection between herself and Tina Calderara, the pilot who crashed into her home. In the months that follow, Lidia plunges into a mystery that upends every aspect of her life.
Rife with age-old dilemmas, this contemporary novel explores the relationships between mothers and daughters and the trials and triumphs of women’s friendships. As Lidia learns to reconcile her pain with her need to be true to herself and to accept that need in others, she discovers that while life has the power to unhinge her, it also has the power to open her to new ways of being in the world.
my thoughts:
Wow! Talk about a terrific family drama filled with secrets, mystery, and romance. I absolutely loved Water On The Moon by Jean P. Moore. The story starts off with a bang when a plane crashes into the Raven's home one morning and turns their lives upside down. Taken in by their neighbor, Polly, the Raven family set about making sense of the plane crash, their current states of mind/life, and everything else happening around them. It truly makes for one compelling read. The story is slow-paced, which enhances the connections between past and present within these characters' relationships and history in general. Yep, seems that on the day of the crash, water is discovered on the moon and the author is able to connect the two - pretty neat, eh? Not to mention the inclusion of famed poet, Lord Byron - how about that for a bit of literary history?
Moore has written a fantastic story that is layered, engaging, and intriguing. The connections between the past and present are fascinating to say the least. I found myself unable to stop reading this book until I reached the very end - it was unputdownable! Life-changing events that lead people onto new paths - that is definitely my kind of read. I would happily recommend Water On The Moon to anyone and everyone looking for a new great read - you will LOVE this book!

This is such a unique story - and what a rave review! Looks like this book is one that I shouldn't miss out on.
Thanks for being a part of the tour.
This is one I normally wouldn't pick up, but you've made it sound so good, I'll have to check it out!
So I totally want to live in Polly's home. Filled with first-editions? I'm in!
I do like contemporary fiction with a female focus, I will check this out. Curiously I've just read the new Judy Blume for adults 'In the Unlikely Event' based on the true story of three planes crashing on her home town of Elizabeth in the 1950s. It's pretty good.
Wow, that does sound like a beginning that would grab you!
Lord Byron, water discovered on the moon, a home filled with first editions and a contemporary story sounds like a good mixture.
