My 2017 Bookish Resolutions...

A new year means new resolutions.  I've decided that my bookish resolutions will be simple: read, read, read.  Yep, that's pretty much it.  I want to spend 2017 reading as many books as I can get my hands on.  I want to read all of the books I have languishing on my shelves - including the classics.  I own boxed sets of Austen's works and the Brontes' works, but somehow have only manged to read two from each set.  Perhaps the bicentenary of Austen's death will inspire me to finally read the rest of her books - Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and her shorter works.  As for the Brontes, I think it might be fun to finally pick up The Tenant of Wildfell Hall - I've heard its fantastic.  Is it?  I hope so.

I also want to read all of Elizabeth Strout's books. I absolutely fell in love with My Name is Lucy Barton - it was simply the best!  One of my favorite reads of 2016.  I own all of her books now, and plan on purchasing her new one later this year - its called Anything is Possible and comes out April 25th.

Plus, I still need to read the new Murakami and all of his other books that I've been putting off.   I didn't want to finish all of his books and have nothing left of his to read, which is crazy because he always seems to be writing something new.  So, I've decided to just read all the Murakami I have left to read.  Sounds like a plan, right?

Oh, and, I want to read the rest of Miriam Toews' and Ann Patchett's books.  I've read a few from each author, but this coming year I want to read their entire catalog of books.  I love their writing, so I figure why not read the rest of their books, right?

Of course, my  main goal - aside from just reading as much as I can - is to read books that I already own. I have so many new ones sitting on my shelves begging to be read that its high time I just dove right in.  I will be buying some books in 2017, but I'm limiting the amount.  This year I think I went a bit overboard with my book buying and that can't happen again.  So, I'm going to write a list of books coming out that I just have to have and pick a number and that will be the amount of titles from the list that I can actually purchase.  Wish me luck!

And now, I'm off to continue reading the new Maisie Dobbs book, In This Grave Hour

Happy New Year!! Happy reading!!

I can't remember if you've signed up for #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks because my head hurts, but I think it'd be a good no-pressure event for your reading mojo! <3 I haven't yet read Strout and really want to. Olive Kitteridge has been on my shelves for a ridiculously long time. I'm also feeling an urge to read classics, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is high on my list.

Andi, sorry your head hurts. Hope you feel better ASAP. I definitely need to head over to your blog and sign up. Sounds right up my alley. Thanks :) I can't wait to see what you think of Strout :) Maybe we should do a readalong of The Tenant?

Great goals! I'm a big fan of all of Austen's books, so I'm especially rooting for that one. :) And I really liked The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, too. So here's to a year of happy reading in 2017!

Your motto for 2017 is read, read, read, which is my goal each year too. My favorite author is Anthony Trollope and I have read 15 of his 47 novels thus far, so you can see I will be busy. And then there are about 500 books on my shelves (I don't dare count them) and I like your idea of reading books we already have.

Read read read is a great resolution!! I would love to read more of my own books and stop requesting new ones.

Lark, thanks! Happy reading to you, too :)

Terra, wow, that is awesome that you've read so many of Trollope's works. I've only read some of his poetry. I know what you mean about the 500 books sitting on the shelves - it happens to us bookworms :) Happy reading in 2017!!

Brandie, definitely! Me too, but its so hard for some reason to do just that. I'm going to really try this year to stick with my own books and stop requesting so many ARCS this year.

I have developed an enormous passion for Elizabeth Strout, after reading only one book of hers: My Name is Lucy Barton. Now I want to read everything she's written. It always amazes me how we enjoy the same authors; birds of a feather, you and I. xo
