Sarah Pinborough is about to become your new obsession.”—Harlan Coben
Lisa is living a lie and everyone is about to find out.
Lisa lives for her daughter Ava, her job and her best friend Marilyn.
But when a handsome client shows an interest in her, Lisa starts daydreaming about sharing her life with him, too. Maybe she’s ready now. Maybe she can trust again. Maybe it’s time to let her terrifying secret past go.
But when her daughter rescues a boy from drowning and their pictures are all over the news for everyone to see, Lisa’s world explodes.
As she finds everything she has built threatened, and not knowing who she can trust, it’s up to Lisa to face her past in order to save what she holds dear.
But someone has been pulling all their strings. And that someone is determined that both Lisa and Ava must suffer.
Because long ago Lisa broke a promise. And some promises aren’t meant to be broken.
my thoughts:
What a suspenseful treat! I just loved Pinborough's latest novel, Cross Her Heart. It was such a fun and thrilling read to get lost in on a rainy day.
Lisa is a single mom to teenager, Ava. Her life consists of Ava, work, Ava. She is constantly worrying about her daughter and always asking her about the ins and outs of her life. Ava is annoyed by her mom's clingy attitude - she wants privacy and freedom. Marilyn is Lisa's bff and she wants to see her best friend finally start enjoying her life - they have a new client at work and he is perfect for Lisa, so Marilyn urges her to date him. All Lisa wants is to make sure that Ava is safe. Then again, she wouldn't mind having a partner to spend time with, so maybe a date or two wouldn't hurt. And, Ava is getting older, so maybe texting her every few minutes is a bit too much. So, Lisa does let go a bit, but soon enough she is regretting these decisions. Of course, nothing hurts her more than when Ava's heroic efforts are publicized all over the country and Lisa's dark secret past comes screaming out all over the paper's headlines and TV screens. Seems like some things can never be forgotten, especially a past as horrific as Lisa's.
Talk about a mystery thriller at its best! Cross Her Heart had me guessing left and right about what happened to Lisa and who was responsible for everything happening to Ava. I found myself on the edge of my seat as I flipped pages faster and faster to get to the end - I just had to see how this story would end. Along the way, I really enjoyed getting to know Lisa and Marilyn - those two women endured so much and my heart just ached for them. As for Ava, she was a typical teenager worried about friends, boys, sex, and growing up. These characters were flawed, interesting, and unforgettable. And their story was unputdownable - I loved it!
I would happily recommend Cross Her Heart to fans of Pinborough's works and anyone looking for their next great read - you will LOVE this book!!

I am so glad to see you loved this one, Nadia! I admit, I hesitated clicking on your review because I was planning on reading it in the next few weeks, and I was hoping it wasn't a dud for you. Yay, now I can't wait to read it!
This does sound good and suspenseful!

Kathy, I will admit that I have not always loved her books, but this one was sooo good. Definitely check it out.
Brandie, I saw that you didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Some of her books are hit or miss and this one was a hit for me.
