From New York Times bestselling author and master of suspense Lisa Unger comes an addictive psychological thriller about a woman on the hunt for her husband’s killer
What if the nightmares are actually memories?
It’s been a year since Poppy’s husband, Jack, was brutally murdered during his morning run through Manhattan’s Riverside Park. In the immediate aftermath, Poppy spiraled into an oblivion of grief, disappearing for several days only to turn up ragged and confused wearing a tight red dress she didn’t recognize. What happened to Poppy during those lost days? And more importantly, what happened to Jack?
The case was never solved, and Poppy has finally begun to move on. But those lost days have never stopped haunting her. Poppy starts having nightmares and blackouts—there are periods of time she can’t remember, and she’s unable to tell the difference between what is real and what she’s imagining. When she begins to sense that someone is following her, Poppy is plunged into a game of cat and mouse, determined to unravel the mystery around her husband’s death. But can she handle the truth about what really happened?
my thoughts:
Whoa, Nelly! What a thrilling read! I absolutely LOVED Lisa Unger's latest, Under My Skin. Talk about the perfect book for a Fall read. This book has suspense, mystery, and thrills galore - it is seriously THE book to read on rainy day with a huge cuppa by your side. You can't help but get sucked in from the first page and find yourself completely caught up in this gripping story about a woman looking for answers.
Poppy's husband was brutally murdered, causing her to spiral and acquire a few "lost days" - days in which she has no idea what happened to her. Time has moved on and so have Poppy's family/friends - all of who want her to start dating. However, Poppy is not ready - at all. She is still haunted by her husband's death, her "lost days" and these recent nightmares/blackouts she's been enduring. Suddenly she is finding hard to tell what is real and what isn't. She knows someone is following her, but doesn't know why. All she does know is that she must figure out what happened to her husband and what happened to her during those "lost days". Poppy is on a mission for the truth, but sometimes the truth is a lot uglier than we imagined. And that is all I will say.
Unger has written a terrifically unputdownable story filled with shocking twists and turns that will have you guessing til the very last page about whodunit. The writing is smart and captivating. The characters are flawed and untrustworthy, which makes believing what you are reading hard to take in - I just loved that!! And the story itself...AMAZING!! I loved trying to figure out if what Poppy was describing was actually real or not. It was such a great way to keep the reader guessing. As for the story itself - love, love, love!
I would happily recommend Under My Skin to fans of Lisa Unger and to anyone looking for their next great read - you won't want to miss this one!!
