Readers and critics alike raved over USA Today bestselling author Sally Thorne’s smash hit debut, The Hating Game, which has sold in over 20 countries. Now she’s back with an unforgettable romantic comedy about a woman who finally has a shot at her long time crush—if she dares.
Crush (n.): a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…
Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.
When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.
Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.
my thoughts:
As a fan of Sally Thorne's novel, The Hating Game, I was all set to fall in love with her latest novel, 99 Percent Mine. I'm a sucker for a good chick lit story and Thorne's last one was smart, witty, and funny - an absolute delight to read. So, I grabbed a huge cuppa and settled down for the night with my copy of 99 Percent Mine. Unfortunately, the reading didn't go that well. Turns out that I wasn't a fan of Thorne's new book. I found myself skim reading and not really enjoying the story all that much. It was the characters - they were sooooo unlikeable! Now, I normally enjoy books with characters that I can't stand, but this time round I just couldn't engage at all. Darcy was the worst and I found myself wanting to get away from her. As for her twin brother Jamie - OMG! He's even worse than Darcy. And Tom, who I liked better than the twins was still a bit of a downer at times. Basically, the characters were awful and I just didn't care enough about them to give a fig with what was happening to them in the story. So, yeah, this book was not for me. However, after reading the reviews on this book tour I found that I'm in the minority. Seems people really LOVED this book to bits. They enjoyed the witty banter and the characters, specifically Tom. So, maybe it was just me that didn't jive with the book. Either way, I don't want to not recommend the book - after all, you may just love it. And that is all I will write about 99 Percent Mine.

I couldn't agree with you more!! I only really liked Tom. Couldn't stand Darcy or her brother. This book was a big disappointment for me.
Bummer! I'm still keeping in my TBR pile because I feel like this is one of those you've got to be in the mood for it. Fortunately I'm coming off my psychological thriller kick so I'm in the market for this. Thanks for being on the tour!

I've seen mixed reviews for this one so I'm still on the fence. Sorry it didn't work for you.
