An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham

(Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book!)

about book:

At thirty, Greer Hadley never expected to be forced home to Madison, Tennessee with her life and dreams of being a songwriter up in flames.  To make matters worse, a series of bad decisions and even crappier luck lands her community service hours at a nonprofit organization that aids veterans and their families.  Greer cannot fathom how she's supposed to use music to help anyone deal with their trauma and loss when the one thing that brought her joy has failed her.

Then there's Emmett Lawson, the golden boy who followed his family's legacy.  Greer shows up one day with his old guitar, and meets Emmett's rage head on with her stubbornness. A dire situation pushes these two into a team to save a young teenager, but maybe they will save themselves too...

my thoughts:

What a book! An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham is touching, romantic, and oh so, compelling. I absolutely LOVED it!!

Greer's dream was to be a successful songwriter, but life hasn't worked out like she had once hoped. Now, she is back home in a place she never thought she'd have to return to.  Unfortunately, Greer made some rather dubious choices in her life that have now led her, or I should say, forced her into community service. The nonprofit she will be 'volunteering' at is one that works with veterans and their families. Greer isn't sure how she'll be able to help, but she soon finds herself assigned to Ally, a teen who has just lost her father; and Emmett, a wounded soldier weighed down by survivor's guilt. As the story unfolds, Greer fumbles her way through figuring out how to get to know Ally and truly help her. She also finds that an old guitar is just the ticket she needs when trying to make headway with Emmett. Of course, just as Greer feels like she is making a difference, DRAMA shows up and she, along with Emmett, must figure out how to save Ally. And, that is all I will write.  You MUST read this amazing story for yourself to find out what happens.

Trentham has written a wonderful story about love, loss, grief, redemption, and forgiveness. The characters are unforgettable and their story is unputdownable. You can't help but get caught up in their lives and root for them. I just loved getting to know Greer, Ally, and Emmett - talk about a terrific trio. Such a great book! I highly recommend An Everyday Hero for fans of Trentham and everyone looking for their next great read - you will fall in LOVE with this book!!
