about book:
As her stultifying marriage is unravelling, and in the midst of mourning the loss of her creative self, Caro Tanner has a nightmare about Peter, an old love whom she hasn’t seen in twenty years. She takes this as a sign he still needs her. With her three children safely off to summer camp, Caro embarks on a pre-Facebook, pre-cell phone road trip to recapture who she once was and what she thinks she once had.
Set in the rock ‘n roll ‘60s of Tucson, Arizona?when Caro and Peter were kooky, colorful, and inseparable drama students?and in the suburban ‘80s, when Caro’s creative spark has been quenched to serve the needs of her husband and children, So Happy Together explores the conundrum of love and physical attraction, creativity and family responsibilities, and what happens when they are out of sync. It is a story of missed opportunities, the alluring possibility of second chances, and what we leave behind, carry forward, and settle for when we choose. It sits in that complicated, confounding, beautiful place where love resides.
my thoughts:
Love, love, love! What a terrific story about long lost love, second chances. and rediscovering yourself. So Happy Together by Deborah K. Shepherd is a must-read for anyone and everyone looking for their next great read - you won't want to miss out!
Caro (short for Carolyn) is tired. She feels stuck in her life - 3 kids, a husband who only seems to care about making money, and a recent longing for her past (specifically, a long-lost love). So, when her kids are shipped off to summer camp, Caro decides that it's time for her to ship off, too. She decides to road trip it and reconnect with her long-lost love, Peter. As we go on this journey with Caro, we get a look into her past and her relationship with Peter. The more we learn about Caro and Peter, the more we get to see whether or not they were truly meant to be together. Talk about a fun story!
I just loved getting to know Caro and Peter. And, I loved the idea of exploring missed opportunities and second chances. Shepherd has created an entertaining and emotional story that will definitely captivate you from the start. Her writing is top notch and her storytelling is superb. You won't be able to put this book down for anything. I absolutely LOVED it to bits! Definitely check out, So Happy Together.
