about book:
May 1816: Jane Austen is feeling unwell, with an uneasy stomach, constant fatigue, rashes, fevers and aches. She attributes her poor condition to the stress of family burdens, which even the drafting of her latest manuscript—about a baronet's daughter nursing a broken heart for a daring naval captain—cannot alleviate. Her apothecary recommends a trial of the curative waters at Cheltenham Spa, in Gloucestershire. Jane decides to use some of the profits earned from her last novel, Emma, and treat herself to a period of rest and reflection at the spa, in the company of her sister, Cassandra.

Cheltenham Spa hardly turns out to be the relaxing sojourn Jane and Cassandra envisaged, however. It is immediately obvious that other boarders at the guest house where the Misses Austen are staying have come to Cheltenham with stresses of their own—some of them deadly. But perhaps with Jane’s interference a terrible crime might be prevented. Set during the Year without a Summer, when the eruption of Mount Tambora in the South Pacific caused a volcanic winter that shrouded the entire planet for sixteen months, this fourteenth installment in Stephanie Barron’s critically acclaimed series brings a forgotten moment of Regency history to life.
my thoughts:
Love, love, love! Historical fiction that is a cozy mystery - what more could I want? Stephanie Barron's latest novel, Jane and the Year Without a Summer, is the 14th tale in her popular Jane Austen Mysteries series. And let me just say that it is fantastic!

In the story, Austen is feeling ill and is in need of a rest. So, she heads off to Cheltenham Spa with her sister, Cassandra. Of course, rest becomes the last thing on her mind when a murder mystery pops up needing to be solved. Say what? Yep, Austen soon has her hands full trying to figure out whodunit. Of course, so much seems to be happening all at once, such as: the nonstop rain, Austen not being able to rest, her fellow lodgers being a rather particular bunch, and animals being poisoned. Oh, and did I mention Mr. West? He's Austen's crime-solving partner. Talk about a date turned bad. Yep, he came to take Jane out and now they are solving a murder mystery - seems romance can't help but blossom. The only question is...will Jane be able to solve this murder mystery before anyone else falls victim?
Wow! What a fun read! Barron has created a terrific new tale in her popular series that will make her fans smile. It's chock full of unforgettable characters and an unputdownable story. I just loved the book to bits! And I would most definitely recommend Jane and the Year Without a Summer to anyone and everyone looking for their next great read - you will fall in deep with this series! Check it out!

This does sound like fun. :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Nadia. I am glad that you enjoyed it too. Barron is magic with Austen's voice and times. I am looking forward to the final book in the series, but also a bit sad that it will be the last.
