about book:
In a YA debut that’s Gossip Girl with a speculative twist, a Chinese American girl monetizes her strange new invisibility powers by discovering and selling her wealthy classmates’ most scandalous secrets.
Alice Sun has always felt invisible at her elite Beijing international boarding school, where she’s the only scholarship student among China’s most rich and influential teens. But then she starts uncontrollably turning invisible—actually invisible.
When her parents drop the news that they can no longer afford her tuition, even with the scholarship, Alice hatches a plan to monetize her strange new power—she’ll discover the scandalous secrets her classmates want to know, for a price.
But as the tasks escalate from petty scandals to actual crimes, Alice must decide if it’s worth losing her conscience—or even her life.
my thoughts:
Wow! What a smart and entertaining read! If You Could See The Sun by Ann Liang is a fantastic YA novel that will grab you right from the start and keep you turning pages faster than you can say, 'invisible.' I really enjoyed this book and found it to be such a treat to read. It was lighthearted and cute, but action-packed at the same time. You definitely got a bit of everything within this story and that is what made it so engaging and unputdownable.
Alice is on scholarship at an elite boarding school in Beijing. In fact, she's the only one on scholarship. And, she feels invisible, so much so that she actually begins to turn invisible. Say what? Yep, Alice finds herself suddenly turning invisible. And, she decides to use this new power to her advantage. You see, her parents can no longer afford to send her to the boarding school - yes, even with a scholarship, they still have to pay - they just don't have the means. So, Alice figures that she can make money using her invisibility to her advantage. How? Well, she can discover secrets for a price. Hmm...sounds like it could work, right? And, well it does, except, the secrets become dangerous - so much so, that Alice may lose her life. Yikes! And, that is all I will write about this awesome story. You MUST check it out for yourself!!
I would happily recommend If You Could See The Sun to anyone and everyone looking for their next great read - you will are going to LOVE this book so hard!
