Token: A Novel by Beverley Kendall

(Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book!)

about book:

She’s brilliant, beautiful…and tired of being the only Black woman in the room.
Two years ago, Kennedy Mitchell was plucked from the reception desk and placed in the corporate boardroom in the name of diversity. Rather than play along, she and her best friend founded Token, a boutique PR agency that helps “diversity-challenged” companies and celebrities. With corporate America diversifying workplaces and famous people getting into reputation-damaging controversies, Token is in high demand.

Kennedy quickly discovers there’s a lot of on-the-job learning and some messes are not so easily fixed. When Kennedy’s ex shows up needing help repairing his company’s reputation, things get even more complicated. She knows his character is being wrongly maligned, but she’s reluctant to get involved—professionally and emotionally. But soon, she finds herself drawn into a PR scandal of her own.

“A smart, sexy rom-com that had me chuckling from the first page. I loved it.”—BRENDA JACKSON, New York Times bestselling author

Token is a rom-com perfect for our times. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen!”—KAIA ALDERSON, author of Sisters in Arms

my thoughts:

Love, Love, Love!!! Token is a must-read for fans of Beverley Kendall and for anyone looking for their next great read - this book is fantastic! I absolutely LOVED it to bits!

Talk about a smart, entertaining, and sexy read! Token is the story of Kennedy Mitchell. A brilliant, beautiful Black woman who started a PR agency with her BFF. Their mission is to help "diversity-challenged" companies and celebrities. Their company is popular and BUSY! As they grow busier, Kennedy finds herself learning more and more about her business and the PR world at large, along with the ways in which race plays a part in it all.

Kendall has written a terrific story that makes you laugh out loud and also makes you think long and hard about the concept of tokenism within society and business. She's created characters that are relatable, unlikeable, and flawed. You can't help but root for them all the way through. I know I enjoyed getting to know Kennedy and reading about the ways in which she navigated the twists and turns that life threw at her in romance and in business. Such a great book!

Token is a book I would happily recommend. Make sure to check it out!
