(Thank you to Soho Press and Edelweiss for my copy of the book!) |
I was able to get my hands on a copy of the final book in the series, which I am so grateful for. The Comfort of Ghosts will be released on June 4th, so definitely make sure to get your hands on a copy!
I was so excited to read the book and jumped right in. I was sad to think that this would be the final time we'd find out what Maisie was up to, but also happy to find out where/how Winspear would leave her. And, well, I'm loathe to admit it, but I didn't really enjoy the final book. In fact, I was really disappointed with it. I found myself annoyed with Maisie a lot throughout the story, which surprised me and made me sad since it would be the last book I read her in. Also, the 'job' was rather predictable and I didn't really care for it or the characters involved. I was also upset that Billy was barely in the story - although his son's story was heartbreaking. Oh, and the revelation about James and Enid was ridiculous. The fact that Maisie suspected all along and then was proven correctly (big surprise) was just unnecessary. And, I didn't like that we still barely know her husband. Overall, the book didn't feel like it was the way to go for ending this wonderful series. Then again, maybe I expected too much. After all, I do love this series to bits. So, any ending would disappoint, wouldn't it?
Let me know what you think when you read the final story in Maisie's life. I'm hoping when I reread it I'll find myself falling into it.
Hope you have a great day! Happy reading!
