Paris in July begins!

Paris in July kicks off today! And to mark this occasion I have been listening to Yann Tiersen all day long. I thought some French music would be a nice way to begin my trip to Paris - I was right! I first heard Tiersen in the film Amelie (which I absolutely love!) - his music makes up the soundtrack.
From the first note of music I heard by Tiersen, I knew that I would have to buy the soundtrack to Amelie - which I did and have listened to repeatedly.  Of course, I wanted more of his music, and luckily for me, my flatmate Katya had some of his other works on hand - so, she kindly made me a mixed CD of his work. It was the perfect way to get me hooked on Tiersen's music. I fell in love with his sound - it just grabbed me from every direction and truly captured my attention.  I'm not normally the type to listen to instrumental music, but when I hear Tiersen, I don't even realize that there aren't words being sung - he just has this ability to compose music that is so full of life that you can't help but be swept away by his sound.  There is also a sexiness to some of his work that makes me think of Paris or what I imagine Paris to be like and that is what I wanted for today.  Thanks to Tiersen I got what I wanted.  As far as the books I will be reading for this challenge, well that is still to be determined.  I've been a bit preoccupied lately and still need to peruse my shelves to see what French tomes I have awaiting me - hopefully a few good ones.

Happy reading!!

Ooh! Now I want to add him to my iPod immediately! I'm fairly certain he also wrote the music for the film Seraphine which I saw last night and will review in a few days. I love music, so thanks for this.

Bellezza, definitely listen to him if you can - his music is great! I wanted to link something or add one of those music type of things to my blog that would play French music, but I wasn't sure how great it would sound - plus, I was feeling rather lazy. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to your review of Seraphine - sounds interesting. Cheers!

What a lovely way to start Paris in July! I have the soundtrack to Amelie too and listen to it over and over - I just love it! I haven't listened to any of his other music though so I will have to keep an ear out for some.

In case you're interested in some other French music I would suggest this band called Malajube. I think it's actually French Canadian but they have some really poppy songs that are fun to listen to.

Here because of Paris in July. I adore the movie Amelie, but never knew who was responsible for the soundtrack. Thanks to you, I do. Will definitely look for Mr. Tiersen's music. Again, thank you!
