Skywriting Journal

I am addicted to journals.  Seriously.  I must have about twenty of them sitting on my desk right now - and they are all brand new.  Waiting to be filled with my thoughts, dreams, rants, etc.  Except I can't seem to bring myself to write in them.  I have several journals that I've kept through the years and those are covered from front to back with my words, but these new ones remain untouched.  Its like I'm waiting for the right moment to pick one up and just start writing - that moment hasn't come.  The truth is I'm not sure if I want to use my journals to write a novel or essays or poetry.  Or maybe I just want to use them to write about what I'm grateful for  - like Oprah and her gratitude journal.  I could even use them to write my to-do-lists in; which I realize is a waste of a journal, so I won't be doing that.  Except, that I have done just that. Oh well.

And then I realize that maybe the reason I haven't written in those journals is because I'm scared of writing - of what I would produce.  Once you put pen to paper, well, those words are out there and I'm just not sure I want them out there.  Of course, if I don't start writing now, when will I?  I just need to push myself to write freely anytime I feel the urge and just go from there.  Right?  Well, that is what I'm planning to do.  So, thanks to Quirk Books I'm going to start doing so in style.  I got a new journal the other day and it is amazing!  The cover has me mesmerized - with its photo of fluffy clouds and a bird flying freely.  How could I not be inspired to write?

Titled the Skywriting Journal, this book is filled with photos by Byron Jorjorian, a nature photographer, who has filled the pages with photos of "fluffy white clouds, desert sunsets, lightning storms, and early morning sunbeams".  Just turning each page will inspire you to write, draw, and create something new.  How wonderful is that?
Those two are my favorite photos in the book and ones that I'm sure I'll soon have covered in words.  And, so I'm off to create - wish me luck!

Happy Holidays!! Oh, and if you are stuck on an idea for a gift, why not try a journal - they make great gifts!

That is beautiful!!! I love paper, it's seriously my weakness. I try not to buy journals that are TOO beautiful because I doubt what I have to say is good enough for such amazing pages. Like, those skywriting pages deserve poetry! But I just think journals and paper are beautiful and necessary!

Rebecca, it is, isn't? I'm the same way - I'm just addicted to pretty journals and stationary - its crazy! And I totally agree with you - those pages do deserve poetry!

Jennifer, it is :) Yeah, journaling seems to take a backseat the older I get - I want to change that.

What a beautiful journal! I now exactly what you mean about putting your writing out there, I think a blank page is rather daunting at times!

I do all my writing on the computer these days, so much so that I am rapidly losing my ability to write by hand with any degree of legibility. Nice article.

Have a wonderful Christmas and thanks for your visits to my blog over the last year

Tom, I know exactly what you mean. I used to have nice handwriting, but now it is terrible. I blame the computer. By the by, thanks! And I hope you and yours had a marvelous Christmas! Cheers!

Okay, I'm so happy to know that I'm not the only person that does that with new journals! I used to keep journals for each of my kids but I just was terrible at keeping them up and I think that caused me to be afraid to start a new journal for fear of failure. Your Quirk journal is lovely! I'm sure you'll be inspired to write now!

That is a gorgeous journal! You know, I have a lot of empty journals. I think the reason why they are still empty is because I'm always afraid of ruining a perfectly pretty journal with my writing. Or even worse, making mistakes in my writing and having to cross them out, etc. I hope you won't be held back by such silly fears :)

Lisa, you are not alone :) Thanks!

Iris, I'm the same way! I hate having to cross anything out - it ruins the journal for me, which is crazy! LOL! I've started using the journal and I'm loving it. I guess its time to just dive into my stack of journals and not care about crossing things out :)
