Dreaming of Books...Again.

I dreamt of another book last night.  This time it was a Gertrude Stein book sitting on the coffee table - The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas.  I have no idea where the inclination to read Stein came from, especially since I haven't read anything by her since I was in college (Three Lives - which I loved!).  Hmmm...makes me wonder why I stopped reading her work.

This tends to happen to me when I'm on a reading jag - books pop up in my dreams.  The first time it happened was in college.  Slaughterhouse-Five showed up in my purse when I went to look for my keys in the dream.  So, the next morning I remembered the book and went out and bought it.  I'd never read Vonnegut before (I'd heard about his books in high school, but that was it) and figured that the dream meant I should.  Suffice it to say, that dream introduced me to my favorite author and I am forever grateful.  I fell in love with Vonnegut's clever, black humor and never looked back.

These bookish dreams are always forgettable, except for that one detail - the book.  Its kind of weird and amazing at the same time.  Then again, who doesn't love dreaming about books, right?

Here are some of the tomes that have made their way into my subconscious:

Talk about some great reads, eh?  And now I'm adding Stein to the bunch.  Not too shabby.  Although, it does make me wonder if my mind is craving something with a bit more substance - I have been dipping into the fluff a bit more often than usual.  Hmm... that is food for thought.

What about you?  What books make their way into your dreams?  And, if you've read The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas - how was it?

I would love to dream about books. I don't ever sleep deep enough to dream at all though so I don't expect it to happen anytime soon!
