Don't Turn Out the LIghts: Commandant Martin Servaz (Volume 3) by Bernard Minier

(Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book!)
about book:

“You did nothing.”

Christine Steinmeyer thought the anonymous suicide note she found in her mailbox on Christmas Eve wasn’t meant for her. But the man calling in to her radio show seems convinced otherwise.

“You let her die. . . .”

That’s only the beginning. Bit by bit, her life is turned upside down. But who among her friends and family hates her enough to want to destroy her? And why? It’s as if someone has taken over her life, and everything holding it together starts to crumble. Soon all that is left is an unimaginable nightmare.

Martin Servaz is on leave in a clinic for depressed cops, haunted by his childhood sweetheart Marianne’s kidnapping by his nemesis, the psychopath Julian Hirtmann. One day, he receives a key card to a hotel room in the mail—the room where an artist committed suicide a year earlier. Someone wants him to get back to work, which he’s more than ready to do, despite his mandatory sick leave. Servaz soon uncovers evidence of a truly terrifying crime. Could someone really be cruelly, consciously hounding women to death?

What if the people closest to us are not what they seem? What happens when someone takes control of your life and your relationships? And what is hiding in the darkness? In Bernard Minier's Don't Turn Out the Lights, you won’t see who’s coming after you.

my thoughts:

Don't Turn Out the Lights is the third book in the Commandant Martin Servaz series, but it can be read as a standalone novel.  Lucky for me, since I have yet to read the first two books in the series - although now that I've read this one, I will be kindling them both ASAP.

A psychological thriller that serves up two mysteries to solve - what more could I want? This is the story of Christine Steinmeyer and Martin Servaz.  The former is being mentally and emotionally tortured, while the latter is being pushed back to work.  Yup, people are not happy with either Steinmeyer or Servaz and they are letting them know.  Chock full of twists and turns, this book tackles some pretty dark and disturbing content.  It was definitely too intense to read at times, but I just could not stop reading.  I was gripped by the characters and their plights, especially Steinmeyer's - I found myself rooting for her from the start.  I wanted her to find out who was the culprit behind this campaign to ruin her life.  I wanted her to succeed in doling out justice and letting everyone know that she was a force to be reckoned with.  As for Servaz's story, I was excited to find out more about this Commandant the series is based on.  I enjoyed reading their stories and was thrilled when the two finally met.  Talk about a truly great suspense-thriller.

I would most definitely recommend Don't Turn Out the Lights to fans of the Commandant Martin Servaz series and fans of psychological-suspense thrillers - you will LOVE this book!!
