Day of the Dead is the eighth and final book in the Frieda Klein series and it is fantastic! Nicci French has written a compelling, thrilling, and unputdownable ending fans won't want to miss. I absolutely LOVED reading all about Frieda and her nemesis, Dean Reeve, and finding out how this amazing series would end.
Frieda is in hiding, because she wants to be in hiding. She is exhausted and wants to lead Dean Reeve away from her loved ones. So, she isolates herself from everyone. Especially, as she knows that Reeve will strike again and this time she may be the target. As for Reeve, he is killing and he is leaving messages for Frieda with each murder - knowing that this will lure her out of hiding. The cops are on his trail, but he seems to always be one step ahead of them - ugh! Oh, and did I mention Lola. She's a law student who has been advised by her professor to walk in Frieda's shoes to learn more about her field of interest - except, no one knows where Frieda is. So, Lola sets out to find her, which means that she soon finds herself of interest to Dean Reeve - Ack! And, that is all I will write about the story. Its just too good to be missed - you will love all the chills and thrills; plus, you'll want to find out for yourself what happens to Lola, Reeve, and Frieda (OMG!).
What an ending! This series is one of my favorites and I absolutely LOVED every minute I spent with it over the years. It is suspenseful, gripping, smart, and filled with so many twists and turns, you can't help but keep thinking about the characters and dramas long after you put the books down. I really enjoyed getting to know Frieda, a character who is not the most likeable, but who you can't help but want to know more about. Plus, the cat-and-mouse story line between Frieda and Reeve was majorly addictive - how could it not be? And the final showdown between Frieda and Reeve in this last book of the series - WOW!! Nicci French ended this book perfectly and for that I'm thankful - thank you, for such an amazing series!!
I would happily recommend Day of the Dead to fans of the Freida Klein series - its a must-read!!
