One Day in December: A Novel by Josie Silver

(Thank you to the publisher and TLC Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book!)
about book:

Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away.

Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

“Josie Silver writes with a warmth so palpable her characters sneak their way into your heart and stay for a long time.”—Jill Santopolo, New York Times-bestselling author of The Light We Lost (a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick)

my thoughts:

What a fabulous story! I absolutely LOVED One Day in December by Josie Silver! It had Christmas, British-isms, romance, heartbreak, and friendship - what more could I want, right?  This book was such a treat to dip into on a rainy day - I loved how it transported me to England and right into Laurie and Jack's lives.  I'm serious, this story was so easy to get caught up in with its engaging manner and dual POVs, that pull you right in with its premise:

Laurie is on a bus when she looks out the window and locks eyes with a man she knows is "the one".  They have a moment in that look, but then her bus pulls away and he is lost to her.  She spends the next year "looking" for him, but to no avail.  Well, that is until her BFF, Sarah, introduces her new boyfriend, Jack, to Laurie.  OMG! Its him - "the one" from the bus stop!! What's a gal to do? Befriend her best friend's new boyfriend to make her best friend happy, right? Talk about bad timing!

Over the next ten years, we get to know Laurie, Jack, and Sarah.  We get to read about their relationships and friendship - how they evolve and devolve.  Its funny, sad, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at once. Silver does a wonderful job of developing these characters - making them unforgettable, relatable, and authentic.  You can't help but befriend them and root for them.  And their story is so much more than a romance, it is about life, friendship, and discovering yourself. I absolutely LOVED reading One Day in December - it was such a delectable treat to read.

I would happily recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking for their next great read - you won't want to miss One Day in December!!
