Every Word Unsaid: A Novel by Kimberly Duffy

(Thank you to the Bethany House Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book!)

about book:
Augusta Travers has spent the last three years avoiding the stifling expectations of New York society and her family's constant disappointment. As the nation's most fearless--and reviled--columnist, Gussie travels the country with her Kodak camera and spins stories for women unable to leave hearth and home. But when her adventurous nature lands her in the middle of a scandal, an opportunity to leave America offers the perfect escape.

Arriving in India, she expects only a nice visit with childhood friends, siblings Catherine and Gabriel, and escapades that will further her career. Instead, she finds herself facing a plague epidemic, confusion over Gabriel's sudden appeal, and the realization that what she wants from life is changing. But slowing down means facing all the hurts of her past that she's long been trying to outrun. And that may be an undertaking too great even for her.

my thoughts:
Love, love, love! Every Word Unsaid by Kimberly Duffy is a terrific read. I really enjoyed sitting down with a huge cuppa and my copy of this book. I felt myself transported to India along with Gussie and had so much fun reading all about her life and how much she changed. It was fun, engaging, and such a treat to read.

Gussie is privileged and pretty much lives her life as she pleases. Until her family finds out what she has been up to. Their solution is to send her to Chicago, however, her boss at the magazine she writes for has a better idea - India. So, as Gussie pretends to head to Chicago, she instead hops a train to Boston so that she can make her way to India via ship. Once there, she catches up with childhood friends and soon finds herself discovering who she is meant to be. Seems that India may just be the home she was always destined to find.

Duffy has written a compelling story that will draw you in and keep you turning pages all through the night. She has created a fantastic cast of characters, an unputdownable story, and provided intriguing and fascinating details about India and its history. I just loved this book to bits!

I would happily recommend Every Word Unsaid to fans of Duffy and to anyone looking for their next great read - you won't want to miss out on this one!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Nadia. I love that this novel is set in Victorian India. That is so unusual. Best, LA
