about book:
A summer house party turns into a thrilling whodunit when Jane Austen's Mr. Wickham—one of literature’s most notorious villains—meets a sudden and suspicious end in this brilliantly imagined mystery featuring Austen’s leading literary characters.
The happily married Mr. Knightley and Emma are throwing a party at their country estate, bringing together distant relatives and new acquaintances—characters beloved by Jane Austen fans. Definitely not invited is Mr. Wickham, whose latest financial scheme has netted him an even broader array of enemies. As tempers flare and secrets are revealed, it’s clear that everyone would be happier if Mr. Wickham got his comeuppance. Yet they’re all shocked when Wickham turns up murdered—except, of course, for the killer hidden in their midst.
Nearly everyone at the house party is a suspect, so it falls to the party’s two youngest guests to solve the mystery: Juliet Tilney, the smart and resourceful daughter of Catherine and Henry, eager for adventure beyond Northanger Abbey; and Jonathan Darcy, the Darcys’ eldest son, whose adherence to propriety makes his father seem almost relaxed. In this tantalizing fusion of Austen and Christie, from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray, the unlikely pair must put aside their own poor first impressions and uncover the guilty party—before an innocent person is sentenced to hang.
my thoughts:
Love, love, love! What a fun and delightful story! The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray is such a treat to read. Chock full of Jane Austen characters, a murder mystery, and a sprinkle of romance - this book is a must-read!
Mr. Knightley and Emma are throwing a house party and everyone is invited, except for Mr. Wickham - his wicked behavior has netted him nothing but enemies. Of course, Mr. Wickham being Mr. Wickham, he decides to crash the party. And, thanks to a storm, everyone is stuck with his company. Talk about an uncomfortable situation. As secrets are revealed and tempers begin to flare, it is soon revealed that a few too many of the guests wouldn't mind seeing Wickham wind up dead. Yep, he's that dastardly. And, apparently someone is very determined to rid the party of Wickham, because he is soon found dead. Looks like the house party has become a search party for the murderer. A whodunit mystery ensues and soon everyone is a suspect!
Claudia Gray has written a terrific story filled with familiar, beloved characters that we can't seem to get enough of. I just loved getting to read about them all once more, along with meeting their children and friends. And the murder mystery was such a fun way to bring everyone together. I just loved trying to figure out whodunit. The Murder of Mr. Wickham is such an entertaining and engaging story - I loved it to bits! I would happily recommend this book to anyone and everyone - you will fall in LOVE with this book!
