Remember Love: Ravenswood #1 by Mary Balogh

about book: (summary from Goodreads)

The undisputed queen of Regency romance is back with a brand-new story perfect for fans of Bridgerton.

The handsome and charismatic Earl of Stratton, Caleb Ware, has been exposed to the ton for his clandestine affairs—by his own son.

As a child, Devlin Ware thought his family stood for all that was right and good in the world. They were kind, gracious, and shared the beauty of Ravenwood, their grand country estate, by hosting lavish parties for the entire countryside. But at twenty-two, he discovered his whole world was an elaborate illusion, and when Devlin publicly called his family to account for it, he was exiled as a traitor.

So be it. He enlisted in the fight against Napoleon and didn’t look back for six years. But now his father is dead, the Ware family is broken, and as the heir he is being called home. It’s only when Gwyneth Rhys—the woman he loved and then lost after his family banished him—holds out her hand to help him that he is able make the difficult journey and try to piece together his fractured family.

It is Gwyneth’s loyalty, patience, and love that he needs. But is Devlin’s war-hardened heart even capable of offering her love in return?

my thoughts:

Love, love, love! I fell in deep with Mary Balogh's latest book, Remember Love - the first in her new series, Ravenswood.  It was just beautiful and heart wrenching to read - I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters and their story. Oh my!

Devlin Ware was always under the impression that his family was amazing, kind, and gracious - the type of family that others looked up to. Except, none of that was true. Turns out his father was a cad who had so many affairs, it was too embarrassing to keep count of them all. Suffice it to say, Devlin became 'persona non grata' within his family when he called out his family for their indiscretions. Yikes! So, he took off and enlisted and never looked back. And then, his father passes away and Devlin is the heir of the estate and is expected to take up the position of Earl of Stratton.  Only, Devlin is wary of of returning home. He's not the same person his family once new - war has hardened him and his heart. But he knows his duty lies at home and so he returns. Once there he meets Gwyneth, the woman he once loved. She knows that Devlin still carries love in his heart and sets out to help him make peace with his family, his new role as Earl, and find his way back to her.

Wow! What a love story! It's slow-going, emotional, and such a treat to read. I loved every minute I spent with Gwyneth and Devlin - what a pair! Balogh has created a wonderful start to her new series with Remember Love - I can't wait to dive into the next book!

I would happily recommend this book to fans of Balogh and anyone looking for their next great read - you will fall in love with Remember Love! Check it out ASAP!
