Fall is in the air, or at least it feels like it thanks to Carl from Stainless Steel Droppings and his awesome reading event: R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XI. Yes, its back and I am so darn excited. I'm already imagining, hot chocolate and creepy reads - the perfect combination to kick-start the Fall season.
So, what exactly is R.I.P. XI you wonder. Well, here's some info to fill you in on all the fun:
R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril, or R.I.P. for short, is a participatory event created by Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings,
wherein we the people spend however little, or much, time we want over
the months of September and October imbibing all things ghastly and
ghostly.
The purpose of R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XI is to enjoy books and movies/television that could be classified (by you) as:
Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural.
Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above.
There are two simple goals for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XI
1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.
There are multiple levels of participation (Perils) that allow you to be a part of R.I.P. XI without adding the burden of another commitment to your already busy lives. There is even a one book only
option for those who feel that this sort of reading is not their cup of
tea (or who have many other commitments) but want to participate all
the same. For details on the various Perils check out the Stainless Steel Droppings website. And, just so you know, there is a review site where you can a link to your R.I.P. XI posts and check out what everyone else is reading or watching!
How fun does that sound? You know you want to join in. I know that I can't wait to figure out which spooky books I want to read. I'm thinking Stephen King will be included on my R.I.P. XI TBR list. And, I know that I will be aiming for at least four books and a couple of creepy movies, which means I'll be going for:
and
Pretty awesome, eh? Well, I hope you decided to join in on all of the fun. I'm off to peruse my bookshelves and find something thrilling to read for R.I.P. XI. Happy reading!!

R.I.P. VIII has begun!!!
Guess what? R.I.P. VIII has begun! Yep, Carl from Stainless Steel Droppings has decided to start his awesome reading 'challenge' ahead of schedule this year and I am stoked! He actually started yesterday, but I only found about it on twitter this morning, so I am a bit late to the game. However, I don't care, as I'm just happy that R.I.P. is in action! I've really been looking forward to this 'challenge' for quite some time now - it helps remind me that Fall is nigh and anything that reminds me of Fall/Winter is ace with me. Anyhow, I've already started looking through my shelves to see which books will be perfect for this year's R.I.P. VIII and I realized that some of my upcoming review books are actually perfect for it. They have that spooky, otherworldly feel that will help me accomplish my goal for R.I.P. VIII - Peril the First. Yep, I'm going to commit to reading four books! And, I might just watch a movie or two as well. Woo hoo!
Now, for those of you who don't know what R.I.P. VIII is, here is a quick summary (info from Stainless Steel Droppings):

The Once Upon a Time Challenge is here!!
Its time for the Once Upon a Time Challenge. Now, I've never participated before, but I'm thinking this is finally the year I'm going to dive right into some fantastical reads or films and join in on the fun. Here are the details (from Carl's site, Stainless Steel Droppings):
"Thursday, March 21st begins the seventh annual Once Upon a Time Challenge. This is a reading and viewing event that encompasses four broad categories: Fairy Tale, Folklore, Fantasy and Mythology, including the seemingly countless sub-genres and blending of genres that fall within this spectrum. The challenge continues through Friday, June 21st and allows for very minor (1 book only) participation as well as more immersion depending on your reading/viewing whims.
Now, for the particulars:
The Once Upon a Time VI Challenge has a few rules:
Rule #1: Have fun.
Rule #2: HAVE FUN.
Rule #3: Don’t keep the fun to yourself, share it with us, please!
Rule #4: Do not be put off by the word “challenge”."
Sounds pretty awesome, right? I know I'm excited, especially since I'll be watching The Hobbit - finally! I just got my copy, so I'm thinking its the perfect way to kick off the Once Upon a Time Challenge. Plus, there are different levels of participation, which means I can choose to read just one book and/or watch films - talk about a stress-free challenge! I love it!
So, if you want to join in on the fun, check out Carl's site and read all about the Once Upon a Time Challenge - you know you want to! And, now I'm off to watch me some hobbits cavorting around Middle Earth.

R.I.P. VII is here!
Its back!!!! Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings has declared that R.I.P. VII starts NOW! Woo hoo! Exciting! I absolutely love this reading 'challenge' and look forward to it all year long. It is the perfect way to kick off the start of fall - spooky, creepy reads that get you jumping out of your seat! By the by, Carl decided to stop calling it a reading challenge, so don't feel pressured to make yourself read X amount of books or finish anything you don't want to. R.I.P. VII is supposed to be fun, not challenging - so just, enjoy!
Okay, so for you folks who don't know what R.I.P. VII is, here goes (info from Stainless Steel Droppings):

I'm still not sure what books I'll be reading, but I'm planning on participating at Peril the First. That means four books! Hmmm. I'm thinking I'll be joining in on The Little Stranger group read hosted by The Estella Society - I've had a copy of the book for ages and figure its about time I give it a go. And, maybe I'll read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Oh, and I've got to get my hands on The Twelve and read that one. Cripes, I guess I do have an idea of what I want to read. Well, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know. And I hope to see over at R.I.P. VII's review site! Happy reading!!
