Happy New Year!! 2016 is here and that means new books to read, along with new resolutions. I've been reading everyone's posts about their plans for blogging and reading in 2016 - talk about inspiring! And I've decided that I'm going to just read, read, read. I'm not going to worry about reviewing every book I read. I'm not going to read THE book that everyone is reading just because everyone is reading it. I'm not going to accept more review books than I can possibly get through (like I did last year). I'm just going to read the unread books sitting on my shelves, the review books that catch my fancy, and the new books that I've been waiting for (The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin, End of Watch by Stephen King, The Last Star by Rick Yancey, The Skeleton Garden by Marty Wingate, Journey to Munich by Jacqueline Winspear, and In Other Words by Jhumpa Lahiri) - Cripes! That's quite a few books, eh? What do you think? Sounds good, right?
As for blogging, I will post at least once a week (or more, depending if I have a review due). I will write about books that I love and hate (because those are the ones that usually get the strongest reaction out of me). I'm not going to worry about the length of my reviews - sometimes short and sweet is just right. I'm not going to stress over my posts. I'm going to just write from the heart.
I want to have fun with blogging and enjoy writing posts again. I want to read more (of everything - classics, nonfiction, mystery, thrillers, horror, etc.) I'm hoping 2016 will be the year that I follow through with my bookish resolutions.
And now I'm off to continue reading my first book of the new year:
So far I am loving it! I'm a huge fan of Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, and How to Get Away With Murder. How could I not be a fan of the mastermind behind such awesome TV shows - Shonda Rhimes! And now I get to read about her personal journey to change her life via her "year of yes". Talk about a great book to kick the year off with!
Happy reading!!

YAY! Fun and Free Range Reading are the WAY to go! <3
I love this!! GREAT goals and great start to the new year!! Stress free blogging and reading is the way to go. :)
Andi, definitely! Thanks to your post about reading your own damn books ;) I love it!!
Brandie, thanks :) I want to have fun with reading and blogging again - this seems like the right way to go about it. Fingers crossed!
I need to stick with the books I have too! Happy New Year!
Kathy, I know, right? Why is it we ignore those books? I'm hoping to discover some treasures within my own collection of books :)
Sounds like you've got this all under control. I applaud your approach to reading and blogging!
Great blog and bookish goals too. I need to put a dent into Mt. TBR this year myself.
Reading just for fun is the only way to read! And it looks like you're starting your year off right with Year of Yes. What a great title for a book! I totally want to read this one. And only blog about it if I feel like it. :) Have a great 2016!
JoAnn, thanks! I hope that I do :)
The Bookworm, thanks so much! Good luck making that dent!
Good idea, reading the unread books on our shelves instead of buying more fits in with my ethos of being more frugal this year. There are probably four new books coming out in hardback that I would like to buy in 2016 but that's all. Happy 2016!
Nicola, we are on the same page! I want/need to be frugal this year (especially when it comes to books), so this is my plan - hopefully I will stick to it :) Like you, there are specific books coming out this year that will be in hardback and must be bought, but those are the only ones. Fingers crossed!! Happy 2016 to you!!
Love that your very first book sums up your attitude for the year :) Happy 2016!
Aloi, thanks! It really does, doesn't it? Happy 2016 to you!!
Alas, planning my reading is something that I seem unable to do, generally I respond to whatever catches my fancy when I've finished a book. So all those goals like reading more Balzac and Proust get put off further and further back.
Tom, I can definitely understand that planning what you will be reading next is difficult. I tend to read whatever catches my fancy - that's how I wind up reading so many mystery-thrillers (they are such quick and easy reads). However, this year I do want to focus more on the books I already own. We'll see how it goes :)
Hi I'm an English major in college from Taiwan. I don't read much actually, unlike you, which is bad :P
I accidentally came into your blog while googling Fishy Waters by Jean Rhys for my homework.
Just here to say that I like the way you run this and I like your interpretation of the books... it's a lovely website here :)
Happy New year!
Hello English major from Taiwan! I was an English major once and not everyone read a lot - there were only a few of us. I love Jean Rhys - she is one of my favorite authors! I'm still trying to read all of her work. I've never heard of Fishy Waters. Thanks so much for stumbling upon my blog and enjoying it :) Cheers! Happy 2016 to you!!
Every year I make a resolution to read the books I have/the books in my TBR pile before getting any new ones. Every year I fail. I'm embracing it this year by acknowledging the problem and just facing the fact my TBR pile will increase before I get to them all. Everyone likes a home library, right? I also made a new literary resolution and it just happens to involve the book Year of Yes!
Happy reading my fellow bookworm :)
The Bibliophile Belle, I know what you mean. I always make resolutions and before I know I've already broken them all - LOL! This year I'm making it easier by making resolutions that are (hopefully) not going to be difficult to achieve - finger crossed! And I'm with you - my TBR pile is getting bigger by the day and needs to be dealt with. That's why I need to read my own damn books (just like Andi posted about). Good luck with with reading only your TBR books!! May we both succeed!! I love that you made a literary resolution involving the Year of Yes - I loved that book! I just finished last night and its still swirling around in my head. Good luck with that resolution!!
Happy reading to you!! And, Happy 2016!!
Happy New Year! This book sounds like a great start!
Dot, Happy 2016 to you!! And you are right, this book is the perfect read for a new year. I love it!!
This sounded like a great book to start off 2016 with.
I'd like to read more, too. Mostly because it would mean I was wasting less time staring at tv shows I don't care about and scrolling aimlessly through social media for hours. Good luck with your goals!
