1. Christmas shopping is done! Finally! I'm wrapping the last gift and delivering it later today - Hurrah!
2.
I finished this book earlier in the week. Its about Maja, a young lady on trial for her involvement in a school shooting. The story is told from Maja's POV - we get to learn about her life before the trial, during, and a tiny bit after. The more you read, the more you learn about what happened. Its a slow reveal and I must admit to enjoying it immensely. Its much more of an interesting read when the author gives you bits and bobs here and there, without sharing everything right away. I found the book unputdownable! I must admit that I doubt Maja's version of events, considering how easily she lies in the book. Of course, the fact that she's involved in a school shooting pretty much paints her "guilty" in my opinion. Regardless of Maja's guilt, the story is fascinating in the way it explores love, justice, immigration, class, and so much more. The writing is top notch and the storytelling is gripping. A definite must-read!! Quicksand comes out March 7th, 2017 - check it out!!
3. My Secret Santa sent me a lovely gift; which I of course opened up right away. I was lucky enough to receive the following goodies:
I've hung the cute ornament on my tree, eaten some of that chocolate, and have put The Burgess Boys on top of my TBR pile for 2017. After reading My Name Is Lucy Barton (which I LOVED) I plan on reading all of Strout's book in the new year, including her latest book Anything Is Possible (comes out April 25th).
4. I'm planning Christmas dinner. I've bought most of the food already, but need to pick up some last minute ingredients later today. Deciding on the main course is never a problem, its the side dishes that we can never seem to agree on. I'm all about the veggies and everyone else wants mac & cheese with a helping of mashed potatoes - talk about carb overload. Anyhow, I'm determined to throw in some asparagus and zucchini. Wish me luck!
5. Christmas is almost here!! Hurrah! I'm excited for the weekend and can't wait to celebrate with my family. Hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend with your loved ones!!

A woman after my own heart. I love veggie sides! Brussels sprouts, shaved kale salad, roasted asparagus. You name it. We made reservations for Christmas dinner but for Christmas Eve I am in charge of the mashed potatoes.
Ti, me too! Veggies are the best! Shaved kale salad sounds good - yum! Dinner reservations sounds like a great idea to me. Merry Christmas!!
What a great secret Santa gift; it's always fun to get a new book. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!! And I can't wait to see what you'll be reading in the new year. :)

Great secret Santa gift!! And I'm with you on the carbs...I'd be mixing in veggies, too. ;)
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Nadia!
Brandie, thanks! Yes, more veggies :) Cheers, Brandie!!
I should follow your lead with the vegetables; sadly, I'd be one to serve myself Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and a roll with butter. Just sayin'...:)
I loved Lucy Barton too, definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. Now I have to read more of Strout as you are.
And Nadia, what an enormous blessing you gave me with your Secret Santa gifts. You are generous beyond compare, and Absolutely on Music is waiting for me with Belgium chocolates as yet unopened when all the fuss of these two days has simmered down.
Merry Christmas, dear friend!
I haven't seen Quick Sand around but it definitely sounds like one I would enjoy. Hope you managed to get some veggies on the Christmas dinner table!
M, I love that :) By the by, we had veggies and all the carbs, too. Delicious! Yes! Such an excellent story - loved it! That's why I want to read all of her books now. I'm so happy you enjoyed your gift :) Thank you.
Lisa, definitely check it out - such a gripping story. I did get some veggies in and loved them :) Yummy!!
