My Friday Five...

1.  Book culling.  Why is it so hard to get rid of books? Oh my! I am struggling in this area and it is annoying the heck out of me. I have too many book piles sitting alongside my desk - they just don't fit on any of my shelves (which are already stuffed to capacity).  I figured I would get rid of books that I've read and wont' re-read.  I also thought I would get rid of books that I bought but never read.  However, when I have the book in my hand, I can't help but wonder if I might want to read it one day (and in some cases, re-read it).  Its like I can't bring myself to get rid of the books. Ack! I just feel like I want to keep books by my favorite writers and books that have really affected me.  All of the other books that I enjoyed, but have already forgotten about I should just get rid of, right? I'm going to have dig my heels and just do it. Ugh. What about you? How do you decide which books to get rid of?

2.  TV shows.  TWD. RHOBH. SC. RHONY.  Yes, I am a reality TV junkie and I love it. TWD is pretty much the only show I watch that is not reality TV.  Although now that Better Call Saul is coming back, I'll be watching that. Anyhow, TWD's finale was great. There was a death by a major character; there was major backstabbing; and there was an epic battle scene that involved a tiger.  It was awesome.  RHOBH's finale was ridiculous and fun. The setting was Pump's "Diamonds and Rose" party.  The woman all gossiped. People yelled and made scenes. Nothing was resolved.  The reunion should be drama-filled and I can't wait to see it!!  SC is Southern Charm.  The show takes place in Charleston and everyone keeps talking about what is considered to be "southern" behavior - of course, none of them seem to know how to behave.  One scene that stuck out is when T-Rav showed us where his kids are living - the guesthouse with the nanny.  Yep, apparently kids are messy and its one thing if they ruin a $200 rug, but its another thing if they ruin a $35,000 rug in his main house. How crazy is that?!  RHONY is back!! Yep, the ladies are all ready to gossip, pretend to like one another, and take us on another craze-filled season.  I'm so excited!!

3.  The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman.  I finally finished all three books. I read the first one ages ago, but wasn't sure I wanted to read the other two.  Then, I got hooked on the TV show version and decided to pick up the last two books. And now, I'm just glad they are over.  They were okay, but not great.  I don't know what I expected, but I wasn't satisfied with what I read.  What did you think? Have you read these books?

4. Poetry.  Its Poetry month and I've been perusing my copy of Memories by Lang Leav.  I had never read any of her poetry until last year - thanks to Twitter! And now, I'm hooked! I love her poems - they are seriously the BEST.

5.  The Hamilton Mixtape.  Yes, I'm still LOVING Hamilton.  And now, I'm listening to the Mixtape in my car on repeat.  I can't help it. I just love this musical so much, which means that I love anything and everything Hamilton.

Have a great weekend!! Happy reading!!

I don't own that many books. One bookshelf worth really but there are some in there that I haven't gotten to even though they are books I've always wanted to read. These days I choose books based on how I am feeling so those books can probably go!

Getting rid of books is hard! I don't have enough book shelves, and I can't build more, so sometimes older books have to go. But never the ones I LOVE or that make me smile and give me that "spark of joy" when I pick them up. But the ones I've read and don't think I'll ever reread again, or ones that were just okay, I try to let go of those. Because some books were what I needed in my twenties, but I'm no longer that girl, and I don't need them in the same way any more. But it's always hard. Good luck!

I've downloaded two of the Magician books, but read neither. I so sympathize with the "where to put books" question! I seem to always have a stack of papers and books on my kitchen counter's corner. It annoys me, but refuses to resolve itself. ;)

To save on space, I've had to get rid of books I'm either never going to read/have lost interest in and books I've read and definitely won't re-read ever again. I usually only keep books by my favorite authors or books that made a huge impression on me. I give away any others I read.

I've had friends who donate their books to the library - if that would make you feel better about it. :) I know it's not easy to let go of books!!

I did read the first book of the Magicians trilogy and didn't like it at all. So I won't be reading the rest of the books either. Good to hear that you enjoy the TV show - maybe someday I will watch it but I'll remind myself that the books are probably still not great. :-)

Oh, don't get me started on the number of books I own. I love to buy books but I rarely read what I own. I need to get into the habit of reading more of my books.

Ti, one shelf of books - wow! That is awesome. I'm not sure if I could be that good. And I know what you mean about reading based on mood - that is me nowadays. I can't read something unless I'm in the right frame of mind for it or I make it an automatic DNF.

Lark, you are so right - books that bring a spark of joy are the ones to keep. And I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it, buts you are so right - the older we get, sometimes the books we loved when we were younger are not the ones we love now. So true!

M, the Magicians books are okay, but not exactly what I was hoping for. Definitely fun and interesting reads, but nothing I would deem must-read material. And if only those stacks of papers and books could resolve themselves :)

Athira, those books were fun, but nothing to get caught up in. I felt like I read them just to finish the trilogy, but not for enjoyment. Definitely disappointing. So, I can understand you no liking the first one. The show is fun, but different from the books - maybe that's why I like it :) OMG! Yes! That is me, too. I buy books, but never seem to pick them up. It is such a bad habit. I really need to read my own books. That's why I want to cull them and then start focusing on the books I have left on my shelves. Fingers crossed that plan works :)

I read the first of the Magicians books and it was ok, so I won't be reading the next two. I want to read books that will be great, ha ha. True though. I am always working on giving away books. When I buy one I aim to give two away.
