Just The Nicest Couple: A Novel by Mary Kubica

(Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book!)

about book:

A husband’s disappearance links two couples in this twisty thriller from New York Times bestselling author Mary Kubica

Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.

my thoughts:

I am always reading Mary Kubica novels, because they always sound soooo good. However, I am always DNFing them. What is my problem? Why do I do this to myself? Ack! It's like when you keep eating cookies that you don't like, just because they're right in front of you and because they're cookies. Well, it's the same with Kubica's books for me. I keep picking them up to read, because they sound soooo good and because they are books and I want to read new books, so why not read the new Kubica? And then, I start to read and find myself putting the book down a minute later. Yeah, they are just not for me. When am I going to learn my lesson? I guess starting now. And the thing is, there are tons of folks who LOVE Kubica's books and rave about them. So, what am I not getting about these books? I find them too slow-going and I always hate the characters - they are just too unlikeable. In the end, these books are just not my cup of tea.

Now, I don't want to put you off, because there have been books I didn't like that my friends have loved. So, all I will say is that Kubica's idea for the story is thrilling and suspenseful and from the other reviews I read - the story is riveting and everyone LOVED the huge twist at the end. Definitely check out what other  reviewers are writing - this book may just be for you.

I've never read her before but I tend to think that her books are formulaic so I've not been drawn to them. I love the cookie analogy.
