Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts...

This week has been busy.  Halloween came and went.  And now we are on to the next holiday - Thanksgiving!  Last week I was worried about rushing through the holiday season, but I've decided to just stop worrying and enjoy it all - including all the adverts for Christmas shopping and the schedules for holiday movies from Freeform and Hallmark (which already started!).  So, now I'm bookmarking recipes for Thanksgiving  - crock pot mashed potatoes where have you been?  And what does pie-cake (or is it cake-pie) taste like?  Sounds yummy - layers of pie and cake!

The Walking Dead introduced us to King Ezekiel and his Kingdom.  Talk about a change of pace from the first tragic episode.  This time round we are in a community that reminded me of a Renaissance Fair.  It all just seemed unreal, plus, Ezekiel's manner of speech didn't help.  Of course, Morgan loves it and wants to stay.  Carol hates it and wants out.  I'm getting tired of Carol wanting to be alone and left to die.  I get that she's tired of killing, but just get over it already.  You killed bad people to save your friends/family and yourself.  As for Morgan, I like that he is realizing that perhaps all life is not precious - Negan!!  By the way, I think there was a romantic spark between Carol and Ezekiel - my fingers are crossed!  Next week we see Negan's compound and how Daryl is faring away from Rick and the gang.  Should be an interesting episode.

I finally read my November issue of Vogue.  I didn't care much for the cover as I'm not a huge fan of Emma Stone.  Oh well.
I did love that Vogue endorsed HRC - its their first time publicly supporting a candidate running for President. Oh, and they raved about the new Zadie Smith book, Swing Time, which I am DYING to read!!! I love her writing and can't wait for this new one to come out.  It sounds amazing!!

Here's a summary (from Goodreads):

Two brown girls dream of being dancers - but only one, Tracey, has talent. The other has ideas: about rhythm and time, about black bodies and black music, what constitutes a tribe, or makes a person truly free. It's a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early twenties, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either...

Dazzlingly energetic and deeply human, Swing Time is a story about friendship and music and stubborn roots, about how we are shaped by these things and how we can survive them. Moving from North-West London to West Africa, it is an exuberant dance to the music of time.

What do you think?  Sounds like a must-read, right?  Vogue knows good literature.  And good movies.  There was a spread in the magazine for the movie, Loving.  OMG!  The photos were amazing and the article about the movie was terrific - made me want to see the film ASAP!! Here's the trailer for Loving:

How good does that look? I can't wait to see it!

I also can't wait to watch the new season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills - talk about DRAMA!! Lisa and Kyle are back, along with Rinna (aka Big Lips), Eileen (aka Ashley), and Erika Jayne.  Plus, there are two new housewives, Dorit Kemsley and Eden Sassoon (who are they!?!).  From the trailer, we see the ladies travel to Greece, Mexico, and Hong Kong.  And we see lots of arguing, arguing, and arguing - its going to be a great season!

Oh, I'm super annoyed that I spent $18 bucks on nail polish that immediately chips.  I just painted them a deep plum color and now they look like I've been digging in the ground - the polish is all chipped and cracked.  Thanks for nothing, Marc Jacobs.  I think I'm going to stick to Wet n' Wild.  Sometimes cheaper is better.

Did I mention that I ordered some new books:

What do you think? Not a bad bunch, eh? I already received an ARC of the Whitehead on my Kindle, but I just feel like its the kind of book you need to hold in your hand and turn pages in.  The Reader on the 6.27 sounded like a fun read, so I'm hoping it is.  I love the idea that he's reading passages out loud from throwaway books to the people he rides the train with.  As for the Crispin book, I've been eyeing it for some time and finally decided to give it a go.  And the Bret Easton Ellis was bought to complete my collection of his books. I love the way he writes his characters - they are always so jaded, broken, and over the top.  I've barely read a few pages and already I can imagine this world of luxe, privileged models that he's writing about - its mesmerizing.  I'm not sure which one I want to read first, but I know that I'm going to enjoy them all. Have you read any of them? Which do you recommend to start with?

Anyhow, its been a long week.  I'm excited to spend the weekend relaxing, reading, and watching a Christmas movie or two.  Hope you enjoy your weekend!! Happy reading!!

I finally just took down my Halloween decorations today, but I'm still in full fall decor at my house. Not giving in to the Christmas hoopla just yet. ;) It goes too fast...I start to panic around this time every year! Not enough time for everything around the holidays. Oh well.

Some great books!! I'm a Wet n Wild girl. Only because I'm too cheap to buy the good stuff.

I hope you have a great weekend!!

Brandie, I know what you mean! That's why I'm going to try and just go with the flow, even if its being rushed. I just want to enjoy it all. Plus, it never feels like enough time for everything around the holidays :)

Thanks! They all sound good to me. Wet n Wild all the way!

Hope you have a great weekend!!

Loving sounds like a good movie. On Walking Dead I hope Darryl escapes, or possibly is rescued by Carol, or Glenn's widow, or ... Isn't Ezekiel's tiger regal and menacing, I like the back story on how Ezekiel saved the tiger.

Terra, it really does. I want to see it. TWD is so good this season and we are only on episode 2! I hope he escapes and if he does it will be due to Maggie - she is on a mission to avenge Glenn's death. I like Shiva and I enjoyed his backstory, too :)
