Building on decades of research, longevity expert Dan Buettner has gathered 100 recipes inspired by the Blue Zones, home to the healthiest and happiest communities in the world. Complemented by mouthwatering photography, the recipes also include lifestyle tips (including the best times to eat dinner and proper portion sizes), all gleaned from countries as far away as Japan and as near as Blue Zones project cities in Texas. A cookbook based on the Blue Zones - how could I not want to read this book!?! Especially, when the books is published by the National Geographic Society. I was in from the start. And, let me just say, how happy I read this wonderful cookbook. It was chock full of delicious recipes, beautiful photographs, and fascinating stories about the five regions (blue zones) that are the focus of this awesome cookbook. I absolutely LOVED flipping through and reading about Sardinia and Okinawa. This was truly a gem of a book.
So, what exactly are the "blue zones"? Well, they are the regions in the world where people are known to live the longest. You know, the places you hear about where the residents are well into their early 100s. Yep, this book is devoted to recipes inspired by these five different "blue zone" regions and it is so interesting to read about. Learning about the different areas and the tips they provide to inspire you to want to live a "blue zone" lifestyle - its just all so fantastic. After all, the goal is to live a long and healthy life, right? Well, this book will have you excited to think about the foods you eat and the life you want to live. I know that I can't wait to try out some of these yummy looking recipes and, I'm also more interested in trying to learn more about the way food impacts our health and how we can use it to our benefit (inflammation, mental health, etc.).
