The Silent Treatment: A Novel by Abbie Greaves

(Thank you to the publisher and TLC Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book!)
about book:

For readers of The Light We Lost and Me Before You, a life-affirming, deeply moving story about lies, loss and a love that is louder than words.

“The premise alone had me, but The Silent Treatment itself is just heartrendingly lovely. It’s beautiful, so moving and clever. I truly adored it.”   — Josie Silver, #1 New York Times bestselling author of One Day in December

A lifetime together.
Six months of silence.
One last chance.

By all appearances, Frank and Maggie share a happy, loving marriage. But for the past six months, they have not spoken. Not a sentence, not a single word. Maggie isn’t sure what, exactly, provoked Frank’s silence, though she has a few ideas.

Day after day, they have eaten meals together and slept in the same bed in an increasingly uncomfortable silence that has become, for Maggie, deafening.

Then Frank finds Maggie collapsed in the kitchen, unconscious, an empty package of sleeping pills on the table. Rushed to the hospital, she is placed in a medically induced coma while the doctors assess the damage.

If she regains consciousness, Maggie may never be the same. Though he is overwhelmed at the thought of losing his wife, will Frank be able to find his voice once again—and explain his withdrawal—or is it too late?

“A remarkably assured debut which doesn’t go where you expect it to go. I very much look forward to seeing what she writes next.” — Jojo Moyes, #1 New York Times bestselling author

my thoughts:

What an emotional read! I absolutely LOVED The Silent Treatment by Abbie Greaves. Oh my, this book. It tore me apart with its love, sadness, and despair.

Maggie is making her husband, Frank, dinner, while she is preparing to take an overdose of sleeping pills. He has no idea of her plans until the smoke alarm goes off to alert him that dinner is burning. He finds his wife's body and calls for help.  At the hospital, Maggie is in a coma. Frank is told to talk Maggie, in the hope that she will respond to his voice.  So, he does. He talks to the love of his life for the first time in six months. Yep, its been six months since Frank and Maggie uttered one word to each other. The question is, why? What happened to lead to the "silent treatment?"  And so, we find out as Frank sits beside his beloved wife and talks about their past, their life, their story.

Talk about a great book! I could not help but fall in love with Greaves' storytelling in The Silent Treatment. The way she writes about Frank and Maggie's love story is engaging, emotional, and unputdownable. You can't help but get lost in Frank's memories. Its truly a treat to read. I just loved the book to bits.

I would definitely recommend The Silent Treatment to anyone and everyone looking for their next great read - you will LOVE this book!!
